Lasik and Intralase

LASIK can permanently correct myopia, far-sightedness and/or astigmatism by changing the curvature of the central cornea. LASIK involves using a surgical microkeratome that cut a thin cap in the cornea. The cap is then lifted and the Excimer Laser reshapes the corneal bed. The thin cap is then repositioned and the patient begins to see within the same day.

INTRALASE Instead of utilizing a surgical microkeratome, Intralase uses a femtosecond laser to cut the cap in the cornea, making it safer and much more accurate. The IntraLase procedure is also capable of treating patients with higher amount of short-sightedness or thinner cornea. The new IntraLase (FS150) technology which decreases the average flap creation time from 20 seconds to approximately 10-12 seconds per eye and with improvements in speed, precision and greater safety.
